For Malaysians who want to study Korean at a language school run by the university, they have two options for a visa.
(1) Study for one semester (less than 90 days): no visa is required; since Malaysia can go to Korea without one if we stay less than 90 days.
(2) Study for two semesters and more (more than 90 days): you must apply for the general training visa (D-4)

I sent an email to the Korean Embassy in Malaysia for the checklist and received the checklist below:

MALAYSIAN NATIONALS - STUDENT VISA

For Malaysians, the documents required for the student visa application are:

1) Complete application form, 5 double-sided printed pages (attached)
2) A recent passport-sized color photograph on a white background.
3) Original passport and its photocopy (main page only)
4) Korean university admission documents, including the Certificate of Admission (original and photocopy)
5) Most recent certificate of graduation / dropout (original and photocopy) OR Letter from the home university to verify the student's current status if going to an exchange program (original)
6) Certificate of scholarship (original and photocopy) Or personal bank statements of the last 3 months, duly certified by the bank in Malaysia, with a balance not less than RM40,000 or the amount indicated in the Certificate of admission, whatever higher
- If you use the parent bank statements, include a copy of the parent's IC and a copy of the student's birth certificate
7) flight itinerary
8) Request rate, max. RM387, payable in cash

Entry visa requirements to Malaysia:

  • A visa is in a passport is an endorsement. It is an important travel document from a foreigner that shows that they are allowed to travel anywhere in the world if they have a valid passpor
  • Visa is something that is not a confirmation that the applicant will receive. The visa can be granted or not, depending on the biological data of the applicant
  • In general, the decision must finally be made by immigration officers at the point of entry

Additional documents may be requested after evaluation.
The application must be presented at the Embassy counter between 8: 30-11: 30 am from Monday to Friday (except holidays).
Processing takes at least 3 business days. There is no express service.

If the applicant cannot appear personally, the representative must bring a copy of their own CI and a letter of authorization from the applicant.

(For your easy reference only, consult the Korean Embassy for the latest documents and rates)

P.S. I checked many websites and other embassy websites. Those websites stated that students must provide a financial test of USD 5,000 and USD 9,000 if they study more than 6 months. However, I called to consult with the Korean Embassy in Malaysia, they said "the requirement of USD 10,000 has been there since ALWAYS in Malaysia." I quote what they say here word for word.

The staff I spoke with on the phone reminded me why I hate dealing with Malaysian government staff
